Submission Preparation Checklist

As part of the submission process, authors are required to check off their submission's compliance with all of the following items, and submissions may be returned to authors that do not adhere to these guidelines.
  • The submission has not been previously published, nor is it before another journal for consideration (or an explanation has been provided in Comments to the Editor).
  • The submission file is in OpenOffice, Microsoft Word, or RTF document file format.
  • Where available, URLs for the references have been provided.
  • The text is single-spaced; uses a 12-point font; employs italics, rather than underlining (except with URL addresses); and all illustrations, figures, and tables are placed within the text at the appropriate points, rather than at the end.
  • The text adheres to the stylistic and bibliographic requirements outlined in the Author Guidelines.

Author Guidelines

Sociological Discourse welcomes original, high-quality research articles, review papers, theoretical and conceptual studies, and other scholarly contributions within sociology and related social sciences. Manuscripts should address significant academic or social issues and make a clear contribution to existing knowledge. The journal is identified by ISSN 2232-867X and e-ISSN 2637-2878 and is indexed in ERIH PLUS.

Authors must submit original manuscripts that have not been previously published and are not under consideration by another journal. Submission of a manuscript confirms that all authors have approved the submitted version and agree to its consideration by Sociological Discourse. Any previous presentation or publication of substantially related material should be disclosed to the editorial office.

Manuscripts should be written in clear and academically appropriate language. A research article should normally include a title, author details and affiliations, abstract, keywords, introduction, literature review or theoretical framework, methodology where applicable, results or findings, discussion, conclusion, and references. The structure may be adapted according to the nature of the research.

The title should be concise and accurately represent the content of the manuscript. The abstract should briefly state the research purpose, methodology or theoretical approach, major findings, and conclusion. Authors should provide relevant keywords to facilitate indexing and discoverability.

All sources used in the manuscript must be properly cited, and every cited source should appear in the reference list. Authors are responsible for the accuracy and completeness of citations and references. Tables, figures, charts, and other supplementary materials should be clearly numbered, appropriately titled, and properly acknowledged where necessary.

Research involving human participants should comply with applicable ethical standards, including informed consent and ethical approval where required. Authors must protect participant confidentiality and should disclose relevant ethical approvals, funding, and conflicts of interest.

All manuscripts are subject to editorial screening and peer review. Authors may be requested to revise their manuscripts in response to editorial or reviewer comments. The final decision regarding publication rests with the editorial team.

The journal does not tolerate plagiarism, fabrication, falsification, duplicate publication, or other forms of academic misconduct. Manuscripts may be screened for plagiarism and other integrity concerns. Authors are responsible for ensuring the originality and academic integrity of their work.

Authors may use artificial intelligence tools for limited assistance such as language improvement, but they remain fully responsible for the accuracy, originality, and integrity of the manuscript. AI tools cannot be listed as authors. Any substantive use of generative AI in manuscript preparation should be disclosed where required by the journal's policy.

Authors should disclose any financial, professional, or personal conflict of interest and acknowledge all relevant sources of research funding. Authorship should be limited to individuals who have made substantial contributions to the research and manuscript. Any changes in authorship after submission require appropriate approval from all affected authors.

By submitting a manuscript, authors confirm their compliance with these guidelines and agree to cooperate with the journal throughout the editorial and peer-review process. The editorial office reserves the right to return manuscripts that do not meet the journal's academic, ethical, or formatting requirements.

Privacy Statement

Sociological Discourse respects the privacy of its authors, reviewers, editors, and website visitors. Any personal information collected through the journal website or submission process, including names, email addresses, institutional affiliations, and other contact details, is used only for legitimate journal-related purposes such as manuscript submission, peer review, editorial communication, publication, and maintaining appropriate academic records.

The journal will not sell, rent, or otherwise disclose personal information to third parties for commercial purposes. Personal information may be shared only where necessary for the editorial and publishing process, where required by law, or where necessary to protect the integrity and security of the journal and its users.

Authors and reviewers should understand that information associated with published articles, such as author names, affiliations, article titles, abstracts, and other publication metadata, may be made publicly available as part of the scholarly record. Reviewer identities will be treated confidentially in accordance with the journal's peer-review procedures.

The journal takes reasonable measures to protect personal information against unauthorized access, alteration, disclosure, or misuse. However, users should recognize that no internet-based system can be guaranteed to be completely secure.
